He was born in 1964 in Heraklion and studied in Athens and Paris.
He is a professor of Linguistics at the University of Crete. He has published a number of scientific studies, articles and books, while for a number of years he wrote articles in newspapers of a pan-Hellenic scope.
For the last 30 years, he has been active, on a voluntary basis, in the A. & M. Kalokairinos Foundations and the Society of Cretan Historical Studies / Historical Museum of Crete (EKIM), and is the initiator of the "Social Space" of Kalokairino Foundations, which deals with the multifaceted support of people in vital need.
He is married to lawyer Asi Lygerou and they have two children, Louisa and Andreas.
